Tactics: Transactional Analysis Concepts for All Trainers, Teachers and Tutors
TA Resources by Rosemary Napper & Trudi Newton Spiral Bound preowned and unmarked.
Review: "I did listen to a keynote speech which Rosemary gave at one of the ITA (institute of Transactional Analysis) national conferences and it was brilliant - so was expecting lots when I picked this up. As soon as you open this book you will know it's special because of the wonderful contents map opposite the "normal" contents list.
The book is quite big - A4 size and is deliberately this size so that you can photocopy pages if needed for teaching or training purposes. Learning about learning is clever... Very clever, and also very useful...
"Learning is the bringing together of information, abilities and experiences - both internal and external - to create a new insight or competence which becomes freshly integrated into an individual's understanding of the world."
That for me is worth the cover price alone because you can use it to set the stage for all what follows - and as I'm writing this thinking I will start my next presentation with this quote... Nice... The book is split into an intro and 11 sections which have also been explained very well at the beginning of the book - sort of like it's own review. And each section has the same structure:
Overview of aim
An activity to get you started
Explaining the relevant bit of TA theory
Another activity to reinforce the learning
Ideas to apply the concept
And again this makes the book really easy to follow, comprehend and hopefully learn from. Rather than go through each section - as the authors have already made a better job than I could probably do - I will explain "How and Why" you will benefit if you choose to buy this book - now - as the hypnotist part of me laughs...
How do I do something and then how do I explain what I know so that I am understood? This book covers this question probably better than anything else I have read so far on learning - and in a comprehensible way so that it's useful and usable.
Why do it in a certain way - because the broad experience of the authors and their peers shows that this works. The collaborative nature of this books is lovely - Rosemary and Trudi list no less than 23 people at the beginning on the acknowledgement page...
How and Why... If I ask my self how I solve this problem - I may get better...
If I ask myself why I have this problem - I may get depressed and stay stuck...
Even the how and why can be used in a certain fashion... Anyway, I have got more than my £20's worth out of this book - so thanks Rosemary and Trudi...
