  1. Far Above Rubies - SIGNED - So if I was on the edge of reason, who was to blame? I for not disciplining my boisterous thoughts, or my husband for pushing me beyond the limits of what any woman should have to bear'? Married to one of the most famous novelists of the Victorian era, the life of Catherine Dickens is as absorbing as any of Charles Dickens' novels. Set against the backdrop of 19th Century London, Catherine recounts her own story of her marriage to a restless, mercurial husband. With a sharp sense of time and place, Catherine brings to life a series of well-known Victorians, William Thackeray, Wilkie Collins and the colourful Count D'Orsay, who live once more through the pages of this intriguing novel. Many fascinating people lie in tombs above which 'no Trophies are raised'. Catherine Dickens may be one to whom this applies, but here she speaks for herself...
  2. The Butterflies Are Free - "All that I can see, all that I can hear, and all that I can think of is her; she is everywhere and everything to me..." In the summer of 1857 the handsome Charles Dickens was to become obsessed with a woman who was to change his life forever, but to pursue her was to risk everything. Set against the backdrop of nineteenth century London, Dickens struggles to oversee his 'home for fallen women', mentor his friend - the drug-addicted Wilkie Collins - and parent his wilful and rebellious children. Will the fulfilment which has so far eluded him be within his grasp, before his health fails?
  3. Caged Angel: 'And so he stood now, as he had done since the first moment he had taken a room opposite her house: watching. He let the curtain fall, and on the glass remained a smear where his face had been. 'Angela...' he whispered the name to himself. 'Like an angel...' Through his journal of bloodstained poems and deranged fantasies, the frenzied consciousness of the barrister Richard Dunn is revealed, as he pursues the young heiress Angela Burdett Coutts relentlessly through the streets of Victorian London. Driven by a fixation that binds him to her through the years, the reader shares his moments of fluctuating sanity and madness as he wrestles with his delusions. With the aid of influential figures of her time - the writer Charles Dickens, the Duke of Wellington and the scientist Charles Wheatstone - Angela seeks to deal with the pain of family secrets, while refusing to be defeated by Dunn's obsession for her.

Happy Customers told us

Hey I just wanted to say how wonderful I think your shop and the mail order subscription service is. I am always excited to receive my book and the personal service you offer in choosing them each time is just AMAZING. I was literally blown away to get my last couple of books that were Star Trek after my initial notes saying how much I like that genre. You deserve all the success in the world because your great! Thank you!!! Kevin

"I just wanted to let you know that my son has received his gift pack in York and he was really touched! He loved the fact that thought had gone into it from both me and you so thank you very much." - Michelle in Shepshed.

"Books received by my mother thank you so much. She is so happy and it has calmed her down, she has been so hyper and anxious the last few days, but your magic has worked wonders. Thank you thank you thank you!" Carolyn in London

Good afternoon, this may be a little random, but I have had an experience due to your shop!
I popped in a couple of weeks ago and picked-up a book for my grandma related to WW1 and Castle Donington. Through her reading of the book, we discovered that it had some relatives in it. We found out more information about our family history and how they passed in the war. I used this information to undertake some online/Facebook research and I am now in contact with some Austrian relatives.
A 10-minute trip to you has led to a lot!

"This fabulous bookshop is quirky, welcoming - an absolute treasure trove. The time's I've challenged the team to find a certain book for me and never have they let me down. Now when I go in they make suggestions of books they think I may enjoy and even keep books to one side for me if I'm not about for a day or two.

They also provide the most wonderful monthly subscription to my Mum - a cosy crime novel each month. As I live a good distance from her it's lovely to hear her excitement when she receives her book and to talk about what has been sent on the 'phone. A great gift thoughtfully delivered by an knowledgeable, wonderful team. Thank you and keep up the wonderful work! You are, without a doubt, my favourite shop in all the world! x" Rachel in Wales
