The Old Curiosity Bookshop
& Tea Room
Situated on the A6, two miles outside the University Town of Loughborough in the village of HATHERN, we are much more than just a Bookshop & Tea Room…
We are a friendly and welcoming bookshop that feels inclusive and accessible: a meeting place for book-lovers, a place to have discussions, find long-lost titles, and a venue for a monthly ‘Meet the Author’ event. A peaceful sanctuary to write and think, and a tranquil refuge for readers to escape for an hour or two.
Military personnel (retired or serving) and anyone in the Emergency Services, are welcome to have a free Tea or Coffee anytime. No questions asked, just respect and respite provided.
Motorcyclists, cyclists and dog walkers are welcome!
There are large picnic tables on the front lawn, with a firmly fixed dog clip for you to clip Fido and pop inside to order. Your tea & cake will be brought out to you. Motorcyclists can park safely off the road, at the rear of the shop from the side road. Cyclists, bring your bikes onto the grass while you relax for the ride home with your bikes in full view.
Toilet facilities are available with disability handrails, but it is not wide enough for a wheelchair – sorry.
A ramp for wheelchairs, pushchairs and mobility scooters is available from the side street at pavement level at the rear of the shop.
Discover our 1930s-style Tea Room with seating for up to 15 people in a cosy atmosphere, with vintage teapots, cups and saucers, sugar cubes and tongs, silver spoons and real napkins and enjoy our menu of home-made traditional cakes and freshly-made sandwiches from 8am to 7pm Tuesday through to Saturday.
