Synopsis: Peter, being independent in spirit, declines to marry a person whom he does not know and taking his ten guineas starts out on “The Broad Highway” to seek his fortune. He meets with all sorts of thrilling adventures, is soon robbed of his money and left penniless.
Peter Vibart, nobleman and scholar decides to become a village smith rather than inheriting a fortune by courting Lady Sophia. Peter, of course, is no ordinary smith and his village is populated by colorful characters who dance in and around the central plot. He rescues Charmain Brown from his dastardly cousin, and since she has no where else to go, she stays with him. Charmain is Peter's opposite and the byplay between characters is timeless.
